This eyepoppingly elegant Clare Valley cabernet sauvignon has had a splash each of merlot and cabernet franc added to inject a touch extra complexity to wine crafted from fruit sourced from the very best blocks of the year. It was given a cool, quiet, 42-month sleep in the finest quality, rare Jean Louis Vicard oak barrels available and the result is an exotically aromatic wine bursting with floral intensity, dark berries, cherries, plum and a lacing of liquorice. A touch of iron filings, smoked blueberries and seasoned leather all roll across the palate together with supportive, muscular tannins that deliver prickle in all the right places. Dried herb notes and a lick of baking spices and iodine leave their dust on a comet’s tail of a finish. A treasure for sure.
