Coal Pit Central Otago Pinot Noir Rosé 2023 $38 
Anika Willner is the evil genius winemaker responsible for this absurdly pretty and delectably dry rosé. Served in a bottle decorated with a Huia feather designed by artist Chris Heaphy and a South Island Tomtit bird on the back, it’s been crafted with 100% pinot noir, 90% of which was whole bunch pressed and the other 10% gently foot-stomped, with each parcel then given a 3-hour soak on skins to bleed colour into the juice. The result is a trout-pink triumph of fresh-cut nectarines, crushed raspberries, snapped rhubarb and hints of citrus and herbs. Cleansing, textural, mineral-laced and lengthy, it has lovely presence and weight.
