SEARCH FOR SUPREME SAUSAGE BEGINS

Sausage makers nationwide are busy trialing their best recipes in anticipation for the 2012 Devro New Zealand Sausage Competition.

Entries are now open to everyone. From local butchers to multi-million dollar corporates, all will be competing to have their sausage named the best in New Zealand.

Retail Meat New Zealand representative, Kim Doran, says the competition is a highlight in the industry calendar and is always looked forward to by both competitors and consumers alike.

“The Devro NZ Sausage Competition promotes excellence in the industry and offers recognition for those striving to produce top quality sausages for their customers,” says Kim.

From traditional beef to unique gourmet creations, participants have the chance to enter into any of the 12 categories.

Throughout late October, mystery shoppers will be sent out to pick up entries and check sausages are easily available to anyone, anytime.

The judging process will take place between 7-9 November and includes a range of palates, from butchers and food writers to chefs and celebrities, all of whom will help determine the category winners and the ultimate Supreme Award winner.

The competition, sponsored by Devro, Kerry Ingredients and Alto Packaging, has been running in New Zealand for 19 years.
