From the ‘holy trinity’ of Hawke’s Bay vintages (2019, 2020, 2021) this Syrah is stacked with classic florals, violets, red roses, plum blossom and buckets of cracked pepper and smoky oak. Vibrant and energetic, it dunks your taste buds into dark berryfruit and then dusts them with baking spices and pepper. Solidly structured, the tannins have a fine, furry feeling to them, the acidity is fresh and frisky, and the team at Leveret are understandably rather proud of what they’ve achieved. Twist the cap and pour a glass before tizzying up a shredded duck salad with plum sauce and roasted peanuts.
