Decibel Giunta Hawke’s Bay Malbec Nouveau 2022 $19
Giunta is a range of wines made in a nod to the surname of owner-winemaker Daniel Brennan’s Sicilian great-grandparents. While his great-grandparents were old, this malbec, crafted from two clones (595 & 1056) grown on 3 different blocks around the Bridge Pa Triangle has been designed to drink young. You’ll enjoy its youthful spices of a light crush, partial whole-bunch carbonic maceration and as soon as the malolactic ferment finished, the wine was pressed to tank, settled, bottled and released for the spring as a ‘Nouveau’ or ‘New’ wine. Superfruity, this wine is bursting with boysenberry, raspberry, cherry and bright, brisk, zesty textures. It’s got Spring/Summer sipping scribbled all over it. A pretty wine.
