Make no mistake, the Aria is an aristocrat amongst southern hemisphere sweet wines. Now I know full well that I’m not supposed to encourage any sort of over-indulgence, however, it’s going to be really hard enforcing the moderation message once this utterly excellent thing has passed the sipping point. Only made in years when the riesling grapes are perfectly infected with botrytis mould so they shrivel around a drop or two of intensely sweet, golden nectar, and handmade super-carefully, the Aria erupts with caramelised citrus intensity, honey and toffee apples, and it bursts with beeswax notes on the finish. Supremely elegant, fresh and firing on all cylinders. It’s a delight.
