Colere Ashmore Vineyard Marlborough Pinot Noir 2020 $65
Cloudy as it pours due to it being crafted unfined and unfiltered, this pinot noir by Julian Richards is grown in the Ashmore Vineyard at Dog Point, first planted in ancient soils at the confluence of the Brancott and Omaka valleys back in the late 1970s , and now the vineyard is certified Biogro organic farming.
A mix of clones have been used including 777, 667, 114, 115, 10/5 828, and 943 100% of which have been whole bunch fermented, which is where the complex, woody, stemmy tannins originate. It’s then aged for 15 months in a mixture of 30% older oak puncheons and 70% stainless steel. The result is a wine showing deep, scorched rhubarb and wild cherry notes that ooze alongside hedgerow spices and a lush, earthy, funky finish.
