Waimea Nelson Sauvignon Gris 2022 $22
Sauvignon gris is a single grape. It’s not, as many people instantly assume, a blend of sauvignon blanc and pinot gris. Sauvignon gris has its home in a tiny ‘department’ called Jura, in western France and it’s famous for producing wines that burst with spiced citrus, feijoas, white strawberries and soft, grassy goodness. And, happy coincidence, those flavours all shine through in the tiny amount that happens to be planted in Nelson on the Waimea Plains. Think about the textures while you’re swishing it around in your mouth. They’re softly prickly, with lovely cling and warmth, which helps the finish well, never stop basically. Love it!
