When Quartz Reef declares a vintage for one of its sparkling wines, you know that winemaker Rudi Bauer and his team are 100% in love with the quality of the pinot noir from that year and infatuated enough to not blend it with any other wines and to excitedly create a snapshot of that point in time in fizzicle form. The base wine was bottled on the 14th of November 2016 then aged for 5 years before being disgorged by hand, sealed and bottled ready for release. Just 900 bottles were made and the result is a silky-dry, stylish, coral-coloured sparkling wine, seductively scented with soft brioche and berry bagel notes and showing a rich, finely-tuned palate with ultra-delicate beading, crisp yet biscuity textures, and a long, “I really don’t deserve you” finish.
