Wynns The Siding Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 $22
Right in the heart of Coonawarra, the skinny, sausage-shaped piece of iron-rich, red soils from where some of Australia’s greatest cabernet sauvignon-based wines are grown, is Wynns Estate. Not far from the historic estate and winery (founded in 1891 is an old railway siding, which served as a major hub for trade and transport to the tiny settlement when it was built in 1898. Winemaker Sue Hodder has crafted a 100% cabernet sauvignon dedicated to that little section of railway and she’s definitely on the right track (geddit) where taste and texture is concerned. Inky, glossy and bursting with berries and bay, dark minted cocoa characters and layers of Dutch liquorice, it’s a smooth, velvety, dangerously drinkable cabernet with beef cheeks written all over it.
