St Pauli Vineyard Moutere Chardonnay 2020 $23
This tiny property is owned by Robyn Reid (a midwife) and her husband Gareth (a roofer), ex-pats from the UK, who opted to scoot to the other side of the world in 2017 to have babies and immerse themselves in the much more stressful life of learning to be winegrowers. The land where St Pauli is situated was a hop farm in the early 1900s, to a deer farm and was eventually planted in vines back in 2001. Today they’re turning out frisky-fresh chardonnay showing acres of peach and pineapple, zappy acidity, a creamy undertone and buckets of charm on the finish. NO WONDER it scored a Gold Medal at the NZ International Wine Show. Lovely stuff and superb. value!
