Domain Road Central Otago Pinot Noir 2019 $40
In 2002 Graeme Crosbie planted his Domain Road vineyard just minutes from an old miners’ hut on the banks of Duffer’s Creek that he used to camp in. Since then, each year, he’s created vibrant, spice-saturated pinots that I’ve loved. Yet 2019 was different. Pristine weather combined with vine maturity and positive chi flowing in from the East which catapulted things to the next level. Bursting with wild cherry, spiced tamarillo, juicy textures and marathon flavour persistence, its taut, elastic tannins absolutely roar with roast mushroom moussaka.
2019 was a cracker of a year and clearly gave the grapes a ticket to groove on down to disco town. I say this because the spice-saturated aromas and flavours are doing the car wash across my nose and palate in crazy fashion. Bursting with wild cherry, tamarillo, vibrant tannins and flavour persistence that boogie woogie woogies til it just can’t boogie no more. The tannins are taut and elastic and it’s a really exciting wine.
Love it!
