Calvert Bannockburn Central Otago Pinot Noir 2018 $64
Lovers of great New Zealand pinot noir will be familiar with the name ‘Calvert’. It appears on some of the greatest examples to ever come from Central Otago. The vineyard itself is located on Felton Road in Bannockburn and the Calvert family were one of the first in the country to convert their vineyard to organic certification. Crafting their own wine involved the talents of Sarah Burton who included 25% whole bunches in a wild fermentation which was hand plunged and then matured for 16 months in barrel before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Soft tamarillo, cherry and spiced blueberry notes lead to silky, lithe tannins, fresh, bouyant acidity and great persistence of flavour. Nicely made indeed.
