Organically-grown carignan grapes have been carefully shepherded into the bottle by Oliver Coste, who has been immersed in his family vineyards (dating back to 1701) since birth. Wondering about the coat of arms? I emailed Olivier and he said “Our coat of arms represents 3 lizards. It was attributed to my ancestor Joseph Alazard in 1701. At that time it was common to make puns when awarding coats of arms. For example, a Mr Martel could receive hammers (martel sounds like ‘marteau’ which means ‘hammer’) And this is how Mr Alazard received Lizards”. There is something fabulously furry and funky about this smoke-laced wine, the tannins are supple, the acidity is fresh and the textures are fine-grained.
