Holy jalapenos! The 2021 vintage is turning out the whopping aromatics in Marlborough sauvignon and this new Rohe release from Rapaura Springs is no exception. It’s a mouthful of flavour fireworks and that’s no exaggeration. Luscious lime, bruised basil, punchy passionfruit and peach, layers of red capsicum and a lick of fresh lawn clippings make this a stunning sip indeed. Fresh, crunchy and ultra-generous in the mouth, it’s outstanding.
Rohe, meaning territory in Te Reo Māori, is the name given to the range of wines distinctive in their sub-regionality and Rapaura is one of the oldest and most recognised in Marlborough. 2021 was the earliest and shortest vintage on record for Marlborough and it’s proving to be responsible for some of the greatest sauvignon blancs I’ve seen straight out the gate.
