Junction Body And Soul Central Hawke’s Bay Pinot Noir 2012 $36
90% new French oak was used to mature this, the signature wine of the Ashworth family, grown in their vineyard located at the junction of State Highway 2 and the mighty State Highway 50. Eleven years on from harvest and the wine has morphed into a rather meaty, seriously savoury beast. Named ‘Body and Soul’ because of what owner John Ashworth puts into everything he loves. A former All Black front row forward, he has an acute awareness of what it takes to win rugby matches at that level, body and soul. He also knows that making great wine takes care and attention and complete devotion. The tannins in this wine, (which is heading into it’s Twighlight drinking period) have firm grip and work well with the solid acidity to keep those spice notes bouyant in the wine. Truffle, iodine, toasted walnuts and smoke bind the finish.
