Mahi Marlborough Rosé 2020 $24
Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir grown in the western edge of Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, this rosé is one of the prettiest-coloured examples I’ve seen all vintage. Like a pink diamond in the glass, it radiates ‘drink me now-ness’. Erupting with soft raspberry, watermelon and pink peppercorn characters, it’s boosted by acidity that’s zingy and crunchy-crisp which adds a palate-exfoliating dryness to its texture. It’s fiercely food friendly and has appearance-deceiving depth and complexity. Drinking this reminds me of Jack White’s lyrics to his band The Dead Weather’s eponymous song “you know I look like a woman, but I cut like a buffalo”
