Drummond Farm Martinborough Pinot Noir 2017 $31
I really love how on the label of this bottle it says very succinctly “harvested in 2017, matured in barrel until 2018 and finally bottled in July 2018”. It gives you a quick scan of how their winemaking season runs for pinot noir. Unfined and unfiltered, with only the bare minimum of sulphur added before bottling, this 2017 is a lightly-styled, true expression of their vineyard. It’s also a very elegant example that’s really just hitting its stride on the catwalk. Lithe, supple and long-limbed in the red fruit stakes and showing lifted florals and spice tones which carry through to the finish. The acidity is perky and the tannins are super-soft. A nice sip indeed.
