The Friuli Colli Orientali appellation is an area in the Northeast of Italy located in the municipality of Manzano which is in the province of Udine (get out your maps kids) and it’s famous for producing crisp, apple and lemon-laden white wines using Ribolla Gialla grapes. This example by Le Vigne di Zamò winery also has a lifted, grassy herbaceousness gleaned from 100% cool fermentation in stainless steel, yet there’s a ribbon of soft, creaminess gleaned from partial malolactic fermentation and a brief, 8-month stint in older oak barrels too. Citrus blossom florals and clean minerality make this a magical match for lemon-drizzled calamari or grilled artichokes.
