Collazzi Liberta Toscana IGT 2015 $40

Collazzi Estate was built in 1560 by Michelangelo on the ruins of a Roman fort. The vineyard is tiny, so wines from here are scarce. Run by three siblings from the Marchi family – Carlo Marchi, Grazia Marchi Gazzoni Frascara and Bona Marchi Frescobaldi, this blend of merlot, cabernet franc and a splash of syrah is unusual for Tuscany, yet the plumpness of merlot, the floral fabulousness of the cabernet franc and the elevated, peppery perfume of syrah make it super-sippable with Annabel Langbein’s Tuscan beef ragu.
