Grown in a dry-farmed site on the confluence of the Wairau and Waihopai Rivers, these pinot noir vines need to send their roots way down deep to extract any moisture from gravelly soils, this means they pick up valuable nutrition and mineral notes from those lower layers which all end up in the wines. Fresh and frisky, this new pinot noir has vibrancy, cherry-saturation and smooth, dried herb and spice characters in the mid-palate. Use a large glass and swirl it to inject a whoomph of oxygen into the wine – then serve it with something hearty like mushroom and caramelised onion tarts.
