Tony Bish Fat & Sassy Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2019 $23.99

Of all the fat and sassy’s, I think the shiny, new 2019 vintage could very well be the plumpest and cheekiest and goldenest of them all.  Tony says he’s keeping it fat with lots of lees work, full malo and quality ripe fruit sourced mostly from the Bridge Pa Triangle region.  The majority is fermented in a large oak cuvé then a small portion goes into stainless steel for freshness, and the rest matures in oak barrels, of which 20% are new. “2019 was an excellent Chardonnay year in the Bay, so we are very happy with the result” he adds. I am too because it’s gained weight without showing any flab.  On the nose and palate expect peaches rolled in butterscotch, cashew butter and brulee notes.  The acidity is smartly balanced and Tony will be rolling this new vintage out over the next few weeks so be on the lookout.
