Today’s column is written especially for A.D. Kirby of Papamoa, who took the time to write two letters to the editor of this newspaper detailing his dislike of my wine descriptors. I’ve taken his feedback on board, tweaked my style and really hope the following reviews are more to his liking…
Obikwa Merlot Shiraz 2015 $9.99
This is a red wine from South Africa. It has a squiggly animal design on the front. It smells like wine. Sort of sour. It tastes weird. It cost ten bucks so I’m not going to buy it again.
Sip with: some food that tastes better.
Corbans White Label Cabernet Merlot $7.99
This wine doesn’t have a year on it, which is good because that just complicates things. It is red and smells like wine. Sort of sour but with some fruity bits. It tasted the same. It was cheap and ok, so I might buy it again.
Sip with: some cheese
Hardy’s Cabernet Sauvignon NV $7.99
This hasn’t got a date on it either and I don’t know what the NV means. Maybe it means ‘Not Very’ as in not very nice. It’s from Australia so no surprises there. It is red and smells like wine. Sort of sour. It tastes weird. It should be cheaper because it’s yukky.
Sip with: a pie or something maybe
