Hands up if you’re trying to sell your house right now. We’re having open homes so I understand. I’ve been trying to keep our house unnaturally spotless and uncluttered and my ‘soft furnishings’ meticulously coordinated for an entire fortnight and I am on the precipice of monsterdom. Thankfully I have good wines like these to turn to when my farm needs to be calm.
Canella Prosecco Superiore Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco ‘Millesimato’ 2014 $30
It might say ‘extra dry’ on the label, but make no mistake, this plucky prosecco is packed with apple, pear and soft lemony loveliness, a seam of piercingly vibrant acidity and real generosity in the mid palate. Serve super-chilled to enjoy the flintiness on the finish. Prosecco is made from a grape known as ‘glera’ and the Canella family have been at the forefront of this fine fizz since 1947.
Sip with strong, washed rind cheeses…

Heron’s Flight Dolcetto Rosé 2014 $24
I think this is the first time I’ve ever tasted dolcetto made into a rosé and it’s fast becoming a new favourite thing. Perhaps it’s the demure 11.5% alcohol, or the racy, fresh strawberry and cranberry characters, or maybe it’s the zap of acidity that pings across the palate. Either way, it’s a delicious drop of Matakana magic that just calls out for something savoury.
Sip with roast beetroot risotto
Morambro Creek Padthaway Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 $34
Gloriously glossy, ruby black colour and as soon as it hits the glass, a waft of fresh spearmint, eucalypt and smoked berries clouds the nostrils in the nicest possible way. Four years in the bottle has given this wine density, dark fruit saturation and a rich, sensual texture on the finish. Extra for Experts: Padthaway is located on the southern tip of the state of South Australia, near the Limestone coast…
So so good with slow-cooked, sticky, spicy ribs…
