New Zealand Pinot Noir on Film

Today marks seven months until Pinot Noir NZ 2013, which will be held on the Wellington Waterfront  from 28th to 31st January 2013.

The seven month milestone is being celebrated by the release of this video on the Pinot Noir website www.pinotnz.co.nz , exploring some of the beauty, depth and characters of New Zealand Pinot Noir.

Pinot Noir NZ only happens once every three years and it’s the biggest event on the New Zealand Wine calendar.

Without a doubt it will be the place to be in the wine world at that time. The event brings together the “who’s who” of New Zealand Pinot Noir, over 110 different producers showing more than 300 wines.

It will be the place to find the winemakers who rarely venture from their vineyards, the wines too limited to find on a shelf and the characters who define our Pinot landscape. It will start conversations which those attending will continue to have for the next three years.

This time the focus is on regionality, so it will be a chance to be immersed in the wines from the Wairarapa, Nelson, Marlborough, North Canterbury/Waipara Valley and Central Otago.

The first three afternoons of the Pinot event will be dedicated to regional sessions, which will include topics for debate. There is already some inter-regional sparring as everyone jostles for positions to take on the topics put forward. You can find a working list of them here:www.pinotnz.co.nz/programme

These regional topics for debate are a departure from typical conference fare and Alastair Maling, Chair of Pinot Noir NZ 2013 said “I’m confident the depth and range of topics, some left field and contentious, will bring the best out of everyone. If you’re not at Pinot it’s going to be hard to contribute to the debate and discussion.”

New speakers include sommelier Raj Parr the Wine Director at Michael Mina’s with restaurants in San Francisco, Baltimore and Las Vegas, Singapore’s champion sommelier Indra Kumar of Buyan Pte and Philip Rich, Director and Wine Buyer at the Prince Wine Store in Melbourne . They join a long list  of wine experts including Jasper Morris MW, Matt Kramer, Lisa Perrotti Brown MW, Tim Atkin MW, Australia’s Mike Bennie and Ned Goodwin MW from Japan. The event will be opened by Sam Neill, movie star and proprietor of Two Paddocks.

Philip Gregan, CEO of New Zealand Winegrowers, is also delighted to announce that confirmed international guests include Matthew Jukes, world renowned wine writer for the Daily Mail in the UK, Bernie Sun from Jean George Group in New York, Guy Woodward, editor Decanter Magazine, Felicity Carter from Drinks Business International, Hakan Larsson from Allt om Vin (Sweden), and Judy Sarris, editor Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine.

This is the fifth time Pinot Noir NZ has been held, spanning the last 15 years of New Zealand Pinot Noir. Each event has reflected the direction and growth of this grape in New Zealand. It has been described as “one of the world’s most impressive wine events”.
