Kemp Rare Wines presents Herzog Winemaker For A Day – Harvest 2012

Come join Hans & Therese in their beautiful vineyard and get dirty for a weekend vintage stint!

Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th April 2012

DAY 1 – Saturday.

Early morning session from 8am – Vineyard & Winery 

vinesHarvest is on – get a coffee on the way, take the secateurs and pick with the team! Learn the whole process from picking, destemming and crushing, plunging and taking a sugar measurement! We start early to bring in the grapes cool giving them the ideal start temperature for the cold soak. Jump on the tractor and get the grapes to the winery where you will assist Hans in processing the precious grapes into a fine must. Be involved as much or as little as you want…

Vineyard Workers’ Lunch

Time for a well deserved casual lunch where Hans will open some bottles of the grape variety picked in the morning!

Afternoon session – Winery

Help the winery team for as long as you like from cleaning the harvest bins to plunging and taking sugar measurements under the tutelage of Hans and his team.

After a physical day take time to relax before we meet again for an evening of pure indulgence.

7.30pm Degustation Dinner

dinnerHans and Therese will host an evening of decadence! Our great team of chefs will cook up a storm with a delicious 5 course menu where most dishes are matched by two different wines of the same grape variety. All the wines will be served blind – it willl now be a piece of cake for you to recognise the variety you picked in the morning!

Day Package $339 ($60 Lunch, $250 Dinner for those who only want to join in for the culinary sessions, without the work!)

DAY 2 – Sunday

Take it easy, have a sleep in or explore some of Marlborough’s highlights before we meet again for a long lunch at the Winemaker’s table of novice and old school vintners!

Long Lunch at the Winemaker’s Table – An extraordinary tasting of the Herzog portfolio

dinner2Hans and Therese will host the long lunch so come and celebrate with the extended Herzog family. Indulge with a delicious 3-course lunch in the beautiful garden bistro, and enjoy an exceptional, tutored vertical tasting of up to nine wines. From the Classic Collection to rare Cellar Door only releases, plus a vertical – for you to discover, compare and appreciate the importance of vintage, varietal character and terroir.

Feel free to prolong the wonderful experience, and stay for coffee, dessert or relax in one of the loungers with a glass of dessert wine or Hans’ distilled life waters (Montepulciano or Zweigelt Grappa) or whatever you fancy… (Normal bistro prices apply).

This itinerary will depend on the weather and can change in its format.
