Brave Roots Marlborough Albarino 2025 $45

Reaching for the Albarino stars via fermentation in older, seasoned French oak and aged on fine lees for 5 months, this wine shows delicious complexity, apple-centric aromatics, lemon blossom, snappy grapefruit notes and a superb, softly saline minerality in the mid-palate and finish. Sourced from fruit grown at Seaview in the Awatere Valley blended with 15% fruit grown in the Upper Wairau, this Galician native has well and truly found a happy home in Marlborough.

Brave Roots is the brainchild of Alina Tenetka and Masha Skorchenko, young Ukrainian winemakers whose friendship began 13 years ago at university in Kyiv. After vintages across the globe, they fell for Marlborough, seeing its potential beyond Sauvignon Blanc. While working at large local wineries, they nurtured a dream to create something brave.
