Hawkshead Private Blend Central Otago Pinot Noir 2019 $44

William Swainson, Fellow of the Royal Society, was a natural history scholar and a naturalist who arrived in New Zealand in 1841. Hawkshead was the name of his first home here, and when his descendant Denis Marshall(ex-Minister of Conservation, Minister of Lands, and Associate Minister of Agriculture, nature fanatic and massive Swainson fan) opted to leap into wine growing, he decided to name his wine brand after Swainson’s family home. What’s more excellent is that the mighty Dean Shaw is his winemaker. Sourced from their Gibbston vineyard, this pinot delivers a kick of redcurrant, pomegranate, cherry and black tea on the nose and palate. Bright acidity, emery tannins and toasty complexity accentuate the smoky finish. Nice!
