Sherwood Estate ‘Sherwood’ Waipara Valley Pinot Gris

August 30, 2018By Yvonne

Sherwood Estate ‘Sherwood’ Waipara Valley Pinot Gris 2017 $16.99  This wine is a little out of balance so it’s not the easiest of wines to drink.  Aromas of honey, baked pear are initially positive, yet there’s a slightly sour note on the palate which throws things slightly.  There are better wines in the Sherwood stable.

Go Go Greystone!

June 25, 2014By Yvonne

If you thought great New Zealand pinot noir only poured out of Central Otago, then here’s a nugget of knowledge for you.  Waipara is fast becoming where it’s at.  Well, this week it was anyway, with the announcement that the Greystone ‘Brothers Reserve’ 2012 ($69) scooped the prestigious International Pinot Noir Trophy at the Decanter … Read More

July 23, 2012By Yvonne

Sherwood Estate No.8 Wire Waipara Sauvignon Blanc 2009 $24  There’s a lot of sauvignon blanc planted in the North Canterbury region of Waipara, but it’s good to see some producers testing the boundaries of what it’s capable of, rather than staying in the safe old stainless steel camp.  Fermented with wild yeasts in old french … Read More

Sherwood Estate Waipara Syrah 2009

December 16, 2011By Yvonne

Sherwood Estate’s 2009 Syrah ($28) was the lucky last wine in the line and I loved its classic blackcurrant, pepper and violet aromas, concentrated fruit sweetness and layers of spice and texture.

Sherwood Estate Laverique 2008

December 16, 2011By Yvonne

As far as sparkling wines go, the Sherwood Estate 2008 Laverique ($30)  is now a new favourite.  A 50/50 blend of chardonnay and pinot noir, its lean, lemony aromas and elegant, minerally mouthfeel made it lovely to drink. Rich, toasty and fresh, it has personality, poise and fantastic length of flavour. www.sherwood.co.nz.  I have to be honest and … Read More
