Dopff & Irion Cuvée René Dopff Alsace Riesling 2014 $22 (4.5 stars)

Here’s a definite new favourite for me, because I adore this style of riesling that’s packed with pure lime and green apple on the nose, crushed shells and wet stones.  It’s a dry style, yet has some gloriously crunchy, natural sweetness allowing a round, citrus-focused mid-palate and a generously cleansing finish.  Love it! www.wineseeker.co.nz

Hunter’s Marlborough Riesling 2016 $18.90 (4.5 stars)

If you’re looking for a bouncy, vivacious riesling that zings with flavour, you’ve come to the right spot because this new release from Hunter’s is so incredibly clean, fresh and limey.  With its snappy citrus and crushed shell notes, crunchy green apple and hints of honeysuckle, it’ll make any recipe featuring ginger, chilli, garlic and […]

Nga Waka Martinborough Dry Riesling 2013 $25

Lemongrass, lime and tangelo zest aromas osmose onto the palate in a wave of cheek-puckering dryness in this tang-fest of a wine.  There’s also a waft of beeswax and honeysuckle sneaking through as you take the glass away from your lips.  A couple of years in the bottle has this wine developing nicely into a […]

Allan Scott Marlborough Riesling 2014 $18 ★★★½

Aromas of green apple, carrot cake spices and musky, honeysuckle and apricot kernel characters all merge together on the palate and crash into a wave of sweetness.  There’s a soft, grainy texture to the finish of this tangy example that’ll definitely appeal to those who prefer a more honeyed style of riesling. Sip with: spicy […]

Soho ‘Maren’ Marlborough Riesling 2015 $26

Woah Nelly!  This is a lime-laden kick in the face, a gum-numbingly fresh little riesling designed to put your tastebuds into a tangelo-laced tangle in seconds flat.  At 11.6% alcohol there’s a squeak of sweetness, but it’s mostly bony-dry. If James Rowan continues to turn out sensational riesling like this, pretty soon someone will put […]

Hawkshead Central Otago Riesling 2014 $28

This stony, sun-baked pocket of perfection regularly reveals racy, riotously good riesling.  Winemaker Dean Shaw has captured intense lime, grapefruit and mandarin flavours dusted with quartz and flint to create this luscious, lip-smacking sip.  Owner Denis Marshal is an ex minister of Conservation, Minister of Lands and the Associate Minister of Agriculture, so he’s totally […]

Kalex Bendigo Terrace Dry Riesling 2014 $32

Wow! Lime alert! This southern star smashes through the palate with green apple and quartz-powder, mineral-driven mouthfeel that lingers long and will send your saliva glands into overload. The citrus intensity is one thing, but the honeysuckle and hints of biscuit really add to the complexity of this wine in the mouth. It’s a clean, […]

Tesch Krone Riesling 2013 $39

If riesling with a kiss of green apple, lime and ripe peachiness sounds like a bit of you, then wait until you sip this dry little dazzler.  Tesch’s Krone vineyard in the town of Laubenheim, lies directly next to the Löhrer Berg on an eyewateringly steep slope consisting of coarse, decalcified loess and weathered sandstone […]

Two Rivers ‘Juliet’ Marlborough Riesling 2015 $19.99

Righto. Hands up who wants a riesling positively erupting with mandarin, apple and lime! Hands up who wants riesling that rocks a splash of sweetness but has crisp, clean, zing-a-ling acidity and a long, racy mouthfeel! Hands up…wait, you’ve got no more hands. Just as well you’ve got tastebuds to enjoy the waves of honeysuckle […]

Johner Estate Wairarapa Riesling 2016 $24

Karl Heinz Johner makes wine in opposite hemispheres, with family estates in Baden, (in Germany’s Kaiserstuhl region) AND in Martinborough’s Gladstone sub-region.  Riesling is a hero grape for him and he loves the crunchy green acidity, pear notes, baked apple, lime zest and honey characters that Martinborough grapes give so much, he’s decided to spend […]
