The Hunting Lodge Home Block Waimauku Sauvignon Blanc 2019 $30

If you’re beady of eye and brainy of brain, you’ll notice that the Sauvignon Blanc grapes for this wine come from a site that began being planted back in 1979. So there could very well be wine from some of the oldest Sauvignon Blanc vines in New Zealand in this very wine. But regardless of history or pedigree, this it’s one of the best things I’ve sipped all year. Loaded with lemongrass and spiked with soft green capsicum, pea pod and fennel and then pricked with bruised basil, it’s underlay of citrus and tropical tones makes it an incredibly complex sauvignon that just heaves with personality. I love it! Mussel fritters? Fab!
