Library Tasting of 2001 Sauternes
Here’s your chance to be one of the privileged few to taste 12 of the greatest sweet wines (including Ch. D’Yquem) from “Perhaps the greatest Sauternes vintage in modern times” according to Jancis Robinson MW.
Held in Wellington, at the Tasting Room at Regional Wines & Spirits at 6pm, Thursday July 31st, this is an unprecedented public event hosted by wine expert and collector Geoff Kelly.
Great Sauternes years are extremely hard to achieve, however British wine legend Michael Broadbent has said 2001 is “exquisite” and compared it to the stunning 1971 vintage. In addition to the Ch. D’Yquem (priced between $1500 – $2200!) there are 11 premier crus (and similar) that all carry Parker scores of between 90 and 100 points.
The list of wines is as follows: 2001 Climens, Barsac Premier Cru
2001 Coutet, Barsac Premier Cru
2001 Doisy-Daene, Barsac Deuxieme Cru
2001 Guiraud, Sauternes Premier Cru
2001 Haut-Peyraguey, Sauternes / Bommes Premier Cru
2001 Lafaurie-Peyraguey, Sauternes / Bommes Premier Cru
2001 La Tour Blanche, Sauternes / Bommes Premier Cru
